About ‘The Zero State’
Li Daoliu “zero” is a kind of boundary. In the “zero” world, all kinds of latent forces play game with each other, but neither becomes a “zero-sum game”. The “zero state” means a boundary without boundaries. The current situation of Chinese contemporary art is precisely a state of zero boundaries, there are all kinds of possibilities.
Since the birth of Duchamp’s urinal at the beginning of the last century, ready-made products have become an avant-garde material that constantly breaks through the tradition of imprisonment and subversion. It has become more and more used by artists and has gradually become a common artistic thinking. In fact, the art of installation dispels the boundaries of the art category, giving people unlimited possibilities. Even industrial design and technological developments both have a great impetus, and this precisely reflects the current practical significance of innovation.
In my opinion, the initial two-dimensional picture freezes to the solidification of the three-dimensional sculpture and then to the space expansion of the installation art. Humans have constantly broken through the existing experience through creating a concept of freedom. In this country without borders, we ourselves become incomparably real.
